Autumn Bracers

Christmas present for my BFF, the first piece in a full set to follow. Designing this set has been a challenge and a lot of fun, because she wanted it to cover, ahem, more of her than most fantasy armor for women does, and there isn't too much precedent for sexy female armor that isn't a leather bustier or a leather bra.

The inspiration for them was autumn in northern California, my first time in a place where the trees actually change color the way we're told they're supposed to, and it blew my mind. When the wind is up and all the leaves in red and gold are falling around you like rain, it's so gorgeous that you can hardly believe it's real.

Everything is cut, carved, dyed, sealed, and riveted by me, by hand. The pattern for the leaves was taken from actual maple leaves; there is no stamp to churn them out, it's all me with a razorblade. The color is done with an eco-friendly water based dye, applied in layers to achieve a gradient, and then sealed with an acrylic finish to lock in the colors and make it water resistant. Would that I could afford an airbrush.
